Faculty and staff in the Knox County Public Schools are heading back to school on August 1 in preparation for the upcoming school year.
All full time employees (classified and certified) will participate in “Teacher Equivalent Days” during the first three days of August. Even though the word “teacher” is in the title, all staff will be reporting.
The days are built into the school calendar based on the number of student attendance days and the number of contract days for staff. Employees will be using the days to participate in collaborative curriculum work, trainings, and other projects that will help prepare for the upcoming school year.
Monday, August 1st
- Teachers will report to one of six locations for curriculum work. Please check your inbox for an e-mail dated 7/29/2016 from our communications department. You will log into the iLearn KCPS site for full details. The day will begin at 8:30am.
- Full time food service employees will have a training beginning at 10am at Lay Elementary cafeteria.
- All other employees should follow any work day plans sent to you by your principal or supervisor. If you did not receive communication on any specific plans, please report to your school/work location.
- All full time substitute teachers will report to their assigned school.
Tuesday, August 2nd
- Unless otherwise communicated by your principal/supervisor, report to the same location as Monday.
Wednesday, August 3rd
- All custodians and maintenance employees will have a training at the KCMS Old Gymnasium from 9am to 12pm.
- Full time food service employees will have a training at the KCMS Old Gymnasium from 9am to 12pm.
- For all other employees, unless otherwise communicated by your principal/supervisor, report to the same location as Monday.
Thursday, August 4th
- All food service staff (full/part time and substitutes) will have a training at the Knox County Board Annex beginning at 9am.
Monday, August 8th
- All transportation employees, including bus drivers and bus monitors, will have a training at Lynn Camp Middle/High beginning at 8am.
Wednesday, August 10th
- All employees of the Knox County Public Schools will attend the Opening Day Assembly to be held at Knox County Middle School at 9am.
- Knox County Middle is located at 311 North Main Street. Parking is available in the front gym parking lot, side lot next to Adult Education, back lot next to Knox County ATC and the parking area in the back of the building next to the Old Gymnasium.
- Employees will report to their school/work location after lunch. Please see your principal/supervisor for more information.
- With the exception of Freshman Orientation occurring at Knox Central High, our offices and schools will be closed until afternoon to allow staff to attend this event.
Thursday, August 11th
- Welcome Back to School! First day for students.
